Catholic Charities Washtenaw County is seeking warm, compassionate volunteers to make weekly birthday calls to older adults in our community once a week either from home or at our office.
Commitment
- One "session" per week; time depends on the calls themselves and the number of volunteers available that week
- Call seniors celebrating a birthday that week (call list provided)
- Engage in short, friendly conversations
- Record call notes on a simple tracking form
- Optional: help prepare birthday cards or small gifts for mailing
Volunteer attributes
- A kind and friendly phone demeanor
- Comfort speaking with older adults
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect privacy
- Willingness to complete volunteer orientation and a background check
Why This Matters
Many of our seniors live alone or have limited contact with loved ones. A birthday call may be their only recognition on that special day. Your voice and presence can truly brighten someone's week.
